At the ceremony, the representative of Sun Airport Corporation (SAC – a member of Sun Group) officially received the Airport Business License from Mr. Le Anh Tuan – Deputy Minister of Construction.

Sun Group officially takes over the operation of Phu Quoc International Airport from January 1, 2026.
Simultaneously, Major General Le Hong Thai – Deputy Director General of the Immigration Department, and Mr. Dao Xuan Hach – Deputy Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam also presented the Decision approving the Aviation Security Program and the Airport Operations Certificate. The completion of all necessary legal procedures forms the basis for SAC to officially operate Phu Quoc International Airport under a new governance model from the very first day of 2026.
Stable operations, service fine-tuning under current conditions
Taking over operations as Phu Quoc enters its peak tourist season, SAC has identified its top priority in the current phase as ensuring aviation operations are safe, stable, and seamless, while gradually fine-tuning and upgrading service touchpoints.

Completion of legal procedures paves the way for official operation of Phu Quoc International Airport from day one of 2026.
During this period, the operator is focusing on reviewing and standardizing existing operating procedures; closely coordinating with relevant authorities to implement synchronized solutions aimed at progressively improving service quality and adding practical conveniences. Specifically, from January 1, 2026, Phu Quoc International Airport officially introduces the ePass non-stop toll collection system (in cooperation with Viettel). This technological solution helps ease local congestion, shorten travel time, and enhance convenience for passengers right from airport access; thereby improving traffic management and promoting urban civility.
Free Wi-Fi service is, for the first time, provided across all terminal areas, enabling passengers, especially international visitors to easily connect to the Internet, look up destination information, access tourism services, and complete electronic immigration procedures (e-Visa). At the same time, a new system of 4G/5G signal-boosting antennas has been deployed to ensure seamless and stable connectivity throughout the journey.
In addition, the Flight Information Display System (FIDS) has been promptly supplemented in both quantity and interface optimization, offering clearer display and complete real-time information, helping passengers proactively move and complete procedures within the airport.
Parallel to this, SAC is strengthening and developing its existing human resources. The goal is to both preserve procedural expertise among long-serving staff and simultaneously introduce a refreshed service culture, so that each staff member becomes a friendly ambassador, delivering warm and emotionally engaging experiences to passengers.
From a “place you have to go” to a “place you want to go”
In its long-term strategy, Sun Group does not view the airport merely as a transit point. Building on its destination-creation philosophy, the Group’s leadership has expressed the aspiration to transform Phu Quoc International Airport “from a place passengers have to go (for travel needs) into a place they want to go (for the experience itself).”

Operational continuity is prioritized alongside gradual service enhancement at Phu Quoc International Airport.
This orientation aligns with the mindset of leading global airports such as Changi (Singapore), where the airport is already a destination in its own right. In Phu Quoc, this vision will gradually be realized as large-scale infrastructure components are completed.
According to the Decision of the People’s Committee of An Giang Province on land allocation for implementation of the expansion project of Phu Quoc International Airport (covering more than 800 hectares, ICAO 4E standard), Sun Group is urgently constructing key items in service of APEC 2027. The project includes a second runway, a new international terminal T2, a VIP terminal, along with expanded aprons and auxiliary infrastructure.
Once the Phase 1 facilities are completed and commissioned in 2027, the airport’s capacity will increase to 20 million passengers per year. At that time, Phu Quoc International Airport will have sufficient space and amenities to integrate premium shopping, dining, cultural, and entertainment experiences, truly becoming a “destination airport” in every sense.
With a clearly phased development roadmap stabilizing operations and upgrading in the short term combined with expansion investment in the long term the participation of Sun Group is expected to turn Phu Quoc International Airport into a perfect piece within a world-class tourism and services ecosystem, commensurate with the potential of Pearl Island.
In the very first days of the new year, Phu Quoc has already demonstrated the vibrant appeal of the destination with its world-class tourism and services ecosystem. On the night of December 31, the “Spectacular Countdown 2026” event at Sunset Town became the festive focal point of the entire country, featuring more than 50 performances, gathering 200 international artists and three fireworks displays in a single night, attracting a record number of visitors.

Rising flight volumes reflect the growing appeal of Phu Quoc as an international destination.
According to forecasts, during the four-day New Year holiday, the total number of flights arriving at Phu Quoc International Airport will reach 288, an increase of 27% compared to the same period last year. Of these, international flights account for 147, up 23% year-on-year.
Sunset Town has also recorded new milestones, with visitor numbers to entertainment attractions during the New Year holiday rising by 76% over the same period. Images of crowds of joyful travelers welcoming the New Year signal a year of continued explosive growth for Pearl Island.
