This milestone marks the airline’s official entry into the international market and establishes Phu Quoc’s direct air links with key economic and tourism hubs across Asia.

On January 15, 2026, the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City and Sun Group held the groundbreaking ceremony for a key infrastructure project – the Rach Chiec National Sports Complex. With a total investment of more than VND 145,000 billion, the highlight of the project is a stadium with up to 70,000 seats, featuring a retractable roof and one of the most advanced air-conditioning systems currently available.

With an OTP of 93.5% in December 2025, Sun PhuQuoc Airways (SPA) officially topped Vietnam’s domestic aviation market for punctuality. This result stands out significantly against the industry-wide average OTP of just 70.7%, particularly during the year-end peak travel season.

Vietnam has been named one of the 52 destinations for 2026 by The New York Times – one of the world’s most widely read newspapers. Notably, to illustrate Vietnam’s tourism, the New York Times editorial team chose the Hon Thom Cable Car in Phu Quoc instead of more traditional imagery. 

At 02:30 p.m on the first day of 2026, Sun PhuQuoc Airways (SPA) of Sun Group officially welcomed its sixth aircraft as it landed at Noi Bai International Airport. The aircraft is a brand-new Airbus A321NX owned by Sun PhuQuoc Airways.

On the afternoon of January 1, 2026, at the Ceremony announcing the handover of operation of Phu Quoc International Airport, Sun Group officially assumed the role of managing and operating Phu Quoc International Airport in accordance with Vietnamese law.

As part of its year-end tradition, America’s leading travel magazine Travel + Leisure has announced its annual Tastemakers list, recognizing the most outstanding culinary destinations in Vietnam. This year, only five names made the cut, all located within some of the country’s most prestigious hotels and resorts. 

On December 29, 2025 (the 10th day of the 11th lunar month in the Year of the Snake), the enshrinement ceremony of the Konagamana Buddha Statue was solemnly held at Ba Den Mountain, Tay Ninh Province, with the participation of more than 450 venerable monks, monastics, and Buddhist devotees.
